Clifton Park - Irudayana "Sam" Lazurus, 81, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013. Sam was born in India and immigrated to the United States September 9, 1983 with his family, and settled in Schenectady. In India, Sam worked as a train engineer, a job which he loved. After moving to Schenectady, he worked at Union College, Ramada Inn and as a crossing guard for the Schenectady City Schools. Sam was a warm and loving man who was always smiling and enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets. He is survived by his children, Lawrence (Maryann) Lazurus and Morine (Mike) Marian and grandchildren, Nathan, Naomi and Neil Lazurus. Sam was predeceased by his wife, Masthan Mary Syed; sons, Anthony and Newton Lazurus; one brother and two sisters. A funeral service will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling time will precede the service Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery.
