Obituary of John Rooney

Schenectady - John "Jack" Rooney, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 14, 2013. Jack was born in Scotia, son of the late Katherine and Frank Rooney, and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from St. Columba High School, earned an associate's degree from Albany Business College and served his country in the Army National Guard. Jack worked for GE in electrical maintenance, retiring in 1988 after 42 years of dedicated employment. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Church and it's men's club, a Bingo volunteer at Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons, a member of the Electric City Chorus and a volunteer at Proctor's Theatre. Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Mitchell) Rooney; daughter, Katherine Fields; son-in-law, William Fields; brother, Edward (Patricia) Rooney; and three grandsons, William, John, and Peter. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Kingsway Arms Nursing Home, especially D-Wing, for their extraordinary care of Jack. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:15 a.m., from Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady then to St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church's Capital Fund, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
