Obituary of Irene Underhill

Schenectady - Irene M. Underhill died peacefully on September 21, 2013, among loving family and friends at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. She was 84 years old. Irene Underhill, nee Irene Barton, was born on December 27, 1928 in Whitehall, NY, the daughter of James E. Barton and Frances (Gordon) Barton. She had three sisters. Grace Cuomo of Whitehall, NY is the sole survivor as Jane John and Helen Cutting of NY are predeceased. Irene, a graduate of Whitehall High School and the Ellis School of Nursing, lived and worked much of her life in Schenectady. Most recently she resided at Lake Sunnyside in Queensbury, NY. Irene was the true loving wife of Earl G. Underhill of Schenectady for 63 years. She had three children she stayed home to raise, daughters, Arlene Seelye of Queensbury and Deborah Henderson of Halfmoon; and son, William Underhill who resides with his wife, Nadine (Briscoe) Underhill in Kona, HI. Irene is also survived by her grandchildren, Corey (Seelye) Dixon, Chad Seelye, Mathew Henderson, Ryan and wife, Kathryn Curry, Daryn Curry and wife, Dr. Nicole Hartvigsen and Ethan Underhill. She had two great-grandchildren, Zada Dixon and Quinlan Curry. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of St. Peter's Hospital for their outstanding and personal care during her long illness. An 11 a.m. memorial Mass will be said on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Saint Paul the Apostle Church at the corner of Kings Rd. and Albany St. in Schenectady. Entombment will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
