Rotterdam - Michael J. Biega, 56, of Guilderland Avenue, Rotterdam, passed away September 25, 2013 peacefully at home with loving family by his side. Mike was the son of Joseph and the late Helen (Maliszewski) Biega. Born in Schenectady, August 5, 1957, he was a graduate of St. Adalbert School, Bishop Gibbons High School, Hudson Valley Community College and Siena College with a B.A. in business administration. He was employed for over 28 years by CMP Industries in Albany NY. He was also employed early in his career by the City of Schenectady. Mike leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Cynthia (Lott) Biega; his beloved daughters, Amanda and Allison, her husband, Robert Chandler and granddaughter, Kennedy Rose Chandler; brother Richard, his wife, Lisa, their children, Rachel, Matthew and Nora; sister, Barbara Caputo, her husband, James, and their children, Nicholas, Dominick and Christian; sister-in-law, Laurie Romanowicz, her husband, Jerry and their daughter, Kaitlyn; mother in-law, Gertrude (Herbert) Lott; cousin-in-law, and close friend, Christopher and Tara Sawitzki; also several aunts, uncles, and cousins survive. Mike also leaves behind a very close circle of friends that span back to his childhood days and remained steadfast throughout the years. Mike was an avid sports fan who took great pleasure in watching football with his family and friends. Mike also loved the Sacandaga Lake area having camped each year as a boy with his parents, then with his friends, and then with his wife and daughters. He looked forward each year to his traditional yearly camping trip with longtime friends, Linda and Lenny Niemic. His greatest pleasure was sitting around his campfires, sharing a drink or two, and chatting into the early hours with friends and family. Most recently Mike took on the role of Grandpa with the birth of his grandchild, Kennedy Rose. This past year, the time he spent with her was amongst the happiest proven by the look on his face each time he held her. The funeral service will be held Friday 6 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
