. Corky Boehm Sr., 85, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on October 6, 2013, after a long illness. He was predeceased by his first wife of 21 years, Walkyria (Val) Cabral de Moura Coutinho; son, Mark; grandchildren, Jordan and Tiffany Gallo; and six siblings, William, Robert, Donald, Ann Speanburg, Elaine Speanburg and Patricia Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Virginia; his children, Ian Jr. of Beverly, MA, Sharon Gallo of Niskayuna and Eric (Susan) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Troy (Kelly) Gallo of Charlotte, NC, Katie Boehm of Raleigh, NC and Elise Boehm of Beverly, MA; great-grandson, Hunter Gallo of Charlotte, NC; brother, Richard Boehm of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews. Corky was born in Schenectady on July 19, 1928, to the late Oswald and Gretchen (Deisinger) Boehm and graduated from Nott Terrace H.S. in 1946. That same year, he joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Brazil from 1948 to 1952 as a staff sergeant. In 1955, he joined IBM Corp., as a customer engineer, where he worked with great dedication for 32 years, until his retirement in 1987. Upon his retirement, Corky began a second career working for Schenectady Business Machines until 2003. He was married to his wife, Val, from 1951 to 1972, until her death, and in 1979, he married Ginny (Diemer) Christensen, with whom he spent the next 34 years. Corky loved to create and fix things. He built a home on Amsterdam Ave. for his family, and completely remodeled the family residence on Rosa Rd. He also had a business for fixing and rebuilding car starters and alternators until the early 1980s. He embraced technology, having been part of the PC explosion at IBM in 1984, loved working on his personal computer and helping others, offering advice and solutions. He and his wife, Ginny, enjoyed traveling and getting together with friends during his retirement, until suffering a stroke in 2003. He was a long-time volunteer for the SICM Food Pantry and a parishioner of St. Luke's, St. John the Evangelist and St. Paul the Apostle churches. Heartfelt thanks go out to Ginny for her dedicated and ceaseless care over the past 11 years; to Dave and Gary Christensen for all their help during the last few years; and to the Home of the Good Shepherd and Community Hospice of Saratoga for making Corky's last months comfortable.
