Obituary of Peter Mele

Glenville - Dr. Peter V. Mele, 91, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. He was born in Sora, Italy, a son of the late Pasquale and Aida Mele and immigrated to the United States, with his parents, as a young boy. Peter proudly served in the United States Army during world War II. He graduated from Union College and went on to earn his DDS from Georgetown Dental School. He then returned to the Schenectady area and opened his dental practice in Rotterdam, where he passionately served his community for 48 years. Peter was an avid golfer and loved boating on Lake George with his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Norma S. Mele; granddaughter, Danielle (Vincent), grandson, Peter (Jen); great-granddaughters, Adrianna, Madison, Aubrey and Sophia; brothers, Dr. Dominick Mele and Dr. Fernando (Emma) Mele; sisters, Mary Lilla and Theresa Mele and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Anthony and siblings, Frank, Vivian and Helen. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady then to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish (Rosa Road, formerly Our Lady of Fatima Church), where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
