Schenectady - Philip C. Cortese, 71, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at Ellis Hospital. Phil was born in Albany the son of the late Frank and Florence Cortese. He was educated in Albany and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School. He worked for General Electric as a Taper in the Steam Turbine Department for 25 years, retiring in 1993. Phil was a member of the Rotterdam Elks 2157, the Moose Lodge 251 and a member of Church of Northill, Scotia. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Cortese; stepsons, Michael D. Rogers and James D. Rogers (Patty Bond); grandchildren, Jason Frederico, Michael Rogers II, Philip, Dustin and Heather; and niece, Debbie Baker. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita King Cortese; his daughter, Elizabeth Cortese; stepdaughter, Joann Frederico; and siblings, John Cortese and Deborah Mercer. The funeral service will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 433 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
