Jean B. Abbott, 89, of Lawmar Lane, died peacefully at home, on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, after a brief illness. Jean was born in Albany on July 11, 1924, one of twin daughters to the late Thomas and Florence Bridge. She attended Albany schools and was always with her twin sister, Jane, rollerskating or helping with the war effort later on. She was employed by the New York State Employment Office in Albany, the General Electric Company, and retired from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna where she worked as a secretary. She married Edmund Abbott in 1960 and lived happily in Burnt Hills until his death in 1988. Jean and Ed loved being surrounded by family and friends, spending summers at Camp Twins on the Great Sacandaga Lake with her twin sister, Jane and brother-in-law, Jim Hannay. They spent their winters in Flagler and Ormond Beaches in Florida with their friends, family and their beloved Dachshunds, Gus and Kinky. Aunt Jean (referred to by many) was kind and caring, always welcoming people into her home. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, cooking, playing Bingo and watching TV game shows and the NY Yankees. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Jean was an Eastern Star and a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Burnt Hills. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Ed; and her twin sister, Jane Bridge Hannay, who died in 2009. Jean is survived by her stepdaughter Sandra (Allen) Sweet, of Scotia, NY; two step-granddaughters, Suzanne Miller and Stephanie Miller, of Porter Corners, NY; two nieces, Linda Hannay Latter of Rancho Santa Margarita, California and Susan (Henry) Shatley of Burnt Hills, New York; one grand-nephew, three grand-nieces and eight great-grand-nieces/nephews. She was predeceased by her step-son, Dennis Abbott. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 30th at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady.
