Obituary of Agnes Damm

Agnes Elizabeth Mullin Damm died at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home on February 11, 2014. Wife of the late Dr. Henry E. Damm, who died in September 2001. Her brother, James B. Mullin and sister, Mary Mullin Dooley, predeceased her. Survived by children, Deborah O'Brien (Paul), Elizabeth Cole (William), Donna Headley (Robert) of Lynchburg, VA, Henry E. Damm Jr., Nancy Damm (Steve Banbury) of Albany, NY. Grandchildren, Justin E. Headly (Air Force, Tucson, AZ), Braelyn E. Headley (Bedford, VA) and Ryan D. Headley (Raleigh, NC). Born in Albany to Claude and Isabel Mullin, Agnes attended the Cathedral Elementary and High School and graduated from the College of St. Rose with a degree in biology. She was employed at the Albany Medical College as a research assistant where she met medical student, Henry Damm. They were married June 21, 1952. They resided in the home they had built for their family in Niskayuna. Mrs. Damm dedicated her adult life to being a loving wife and mother. She was also involved in the parents club of St. Helen's School and Notre Dame High School. She was also an active member and past president of the Auxiliary of the Schenectady County and New York State medical societies; she served as editor of Distaff, the publication of the State Medical Auxiliary. She also served on the Board of the College of St. Rose Alumni Assocation and was a member of the Alumni Mothers Club of ND-BG. Mrs. Damm was a creative person, a talented tole painter, creator of many beautiful crewel embroidery pieces and an expert knitter. Agnes and Henry loved their vacation home in the Adirondacks, Sursum Corda and enjoyed many hours together searching out Adirondack crafts and furniture for their home away from Niskayuna. The Damm Family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of all departments at Kingsway for their care of Agnes, with special thank yous to all of the staff on A Wing, and a very special note of gratitude to Rahini for her kind and daily care of Agnes. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church (Union St. Church) on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. There will be no viewing hours. The family will receive friends at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church on Union Street in Niskayuna at 10 a.m. (an hour before the funeral) on Thursday, Feb. 13. Entombment, Most Holy Redeemer, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, donations in Agnes' memory may be made to the scholarship fund at Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, NY 12304 or The City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.
