Lucy E. Mead, 91, of Summit Towers, has been borne on angel wings into the arms of her Lord, February 13, 2014. Born Ethel Lucia Mead on June 20, 1922 in Gloversville, NY, one of five daughters of the late Quincey Monroe Mead and Ethel Lillian Chapin, his wife. Lucy grew up in and graduated from Gloversville schools and then Cobleskill College with a degree in institutional management and dietetics. Welcomed into Alpha Sigma Delta sorority, she performed many charitable activities. After graduation she managed Rockville Center High School cafeteria before retiring along the southern Hudson River in Rhinecliff, NY with her beloved cat, Geronimo. She ventured north to Schenectady where she lived comfortably for the last 22 years of ler life to be closer to family. She excelled in baking and knitting and often assisted in caring for and entertaining her closest neighbors. She became a member of the Eddy Senior Care Program where her cherished life qualities were humbleness, her humor and generosity, her smile and laughter. She is predeceased by the love of her life she affectionately referred to just as Jack lost to her in WWII in the battle of Okinawa, also by her sisters and their husbands, Geraldine Fosmire (David) of Nelliston, Beatrice Simons (Preston) of Wells; brothers-in-law, Thomas Michalek and Steven Michalek, and most recently Lester Buyce. She is survived by two sisters, Victoria Michalek of Gloversville and her close friend, Roy Pearsal of Edinberg, and Rosalie Buyce of Winterhaven, FL; and several nieces and nephews, especially Kenneth J. and Joanne Buyce of Scotia. Thank you to the staff of Eddy Senior Care Services of the last 14 years, Dr. Barkowski, Mohawk Ambulance, Ellis and Sunnyview Hospitals for their years of care and dedicated service. Also thank you to Susan Daly of Daly Funeral Home in Schenectady, and Rich Alric of Pickett Memorial Co. in Gloversville who in this difficult time, exceeded in expertise. A private burial of her urn will be with her dear parents in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville in the family plot at a date later to be announced. She attributed her long life to her good heart and a healthy diet.
