Obituary of Iris Waters

Schenectady - Iris Waters, 95, was called home to the Lord, Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Iris was born April 16, 1919, the daughter of the late Lucius and Gladys DeHart in Akron, Ohio. Upon graduating high school, she played semi-pro basketball. She worked at Barney's in Schenectady for more than 10 years as a cosmetic buyer, and then moved to New York City where she worked for Dorothy Gray-Tussy-Olgolvie. Iris then traveled throughout the United States working in the cosmetic business and was one of the highest paid women in country at that time. She was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church of Schenectady, a member of the Altar Rosary Society of that church and was President for 10 years and enjoyed fishing and watching the Mets. Iris is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Kurt) Wenzel and Janis Jastrebski; step-daughters, Patricia Waters and Debra Waters; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Waters; brothers, Robert DeHart and Lawrence DeHart; sister, Gloria Campbell; and son-in-law, Joseph J. Jastrebski. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the service on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery.
