Obituary of David Hume

Schenectady - David Cady Hume Jr., a longtime Schenectady resident, died while surrounded by family members on Sunday, April 13 after a very brief illness. David was the son of David and Sallie Hume and was born September 22, 1948, in Schenectady. David graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1966. He worked for several years at The Daily Gazette before health issues made this impossible. David was predeceased by his parents, as well as by a sister, Maryanna. He will be remembered for his genuine love of people and music in particular rock and roll, musicals and Gershwin. Two of his recent fond memories were going to Proctor's to see Fiddler on the Roof and going to hear the group,Moody Blues. David also enjoyed going to Glenville Queen for pancakes and he appreciated the way staff welcomed him to their facility. David is survived by sister, Betsie and her husband, Henry and their two children, Teresa and Andrew and by his brother, Bill and his wife, Lori and their daughter, Kathryn. Additionally he is survived by cousins, John Hume of Mariaville and his wife, Connie; as well as out of town cousins, Frank Gaynor of Franklin, MA, and Sally Gaynor and Peter Gaynor, both of Malvern, PA; and his longtime good friend, Judy Foshag of Glenville, NY. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home for taking such good care of him during his residence at this facility where he felt he was among friends. Bill Gavaletz was instrumental in David's transition to living at Schuyler Ridge as well as being a good friend. The family would also like to thank the staff at Saratoga Springs Hospital for providing compassionate care keeping him comfortable his last day. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Daly Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, North Ferry Street, Schenectady to be followed by a collation in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home music program as this was his favorite activity. The address is 1 Adele Boulevard, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
