Obituary of Frank Pochobradsky

Glenville - Frank A. Pochobradsky of Saratoga Rd., formerly of Ave. H. Schenectady, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014. He was born in Astoria Queens, NYC, son of the late Frank Pochobradsky and Elisabeth Luders, on May 5, 1933. He was a graduate of W.C. Bryant High School, class of 1951, and the New York City Technical College in Brooklyn, NY. He was 80 years old. He was retired from Knolls Atomic Power Lab after 39 years as a draftsman, working for General Electric, Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin. He also worked five years as a draftsman for ALCO Products. Frank served his country during the Korean War as a corporal in the Military Police and as a member of the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Regiment, serving in Schweinfurd Germany, the country of his mother's birth. He was a member of the Polish American Veterans of Schenectady and the Korean War Veterans Association of Troy. He was a former Scoutmaster and member of the Mont Pleasant Booster Club and also a representative 2nd level committee member, Contract Committee member of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local #147 and the Knights of St. John #100 in Schenectady. Frank was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Joan Fitzgerald Pochobradsky, on December 4, 2012. They were married on July 13, 1957 at St. Columba Church in Schenectady. Frank and Joan enjoyed their summers spent at camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake with family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Steven) Solimano; sons, Steven (Diane) and Eric (Nancy); grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Daniel and Stephanie Solimano, Sarah, Bethany, Benjamin, Hanna and Molly Pochobradsky; brother, John (Mary Jane) Pochobradsky; sister-in-law, Carol (Chuck) Slatterick; a nephew, four nieces and many cousins. Special thanks to the staff of Judson Meadows Assisted Living Center and Baptist Health Nursing Home for their exceptional care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. St. Joseph's Church, Schenectady. A calling period will precede the Mass on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Memorial. Donations in Frank's memory may be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 422 Park Ave., South, NY10016.
