Elinor M. (Rosenthal) Califano, age 76, died from complications of COPD at Ellis Hospital on May 20, 2010. Ellie was predeceased in January 2009 by her beloved husband of 44 years, James P. Califano, Sr. Among her survivors are her sister, Judith Hyatt of San Diego; her step-son, James P. Califano, Jr., and his wife, Ellie, their daughter, Monique and son, Alan; and her granddaughter, Carrie Carney and her husband, Pete, all of Maine. She also leaves many close friends, to whom her family is especially grateful for their support and care during her illness. They also thank her doctors and the staff at Ellis Hospital. At the request of the family, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made in Ellie's name to a charity of your choice.
