Obituary of Armand Melanson

Cape Coral, FL - Armand C. Melanson, 93, of SE 11th Pl., formerly of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law on Thursday, January 29, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Cohoes, Mel was the son of the late James and Alice (Hebert) Melanson. A graduate of LaSalle Institute and a US Navy World War II veteran and a graduate of the GE Apprentise program. He was a foundry foreman in the Ironshop Bldg. 95 and foreman in the Steel Shop Bldg. 57 at the General Electric Co. for over 40 years, before retiring in 1981. His greatest joy was spending time with family at Saratoga Lake and enjoyed his snow-bird lifestyle since retiring from work. Mel led by example, hard work, love of family and country and following his faith. Mel was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Haske) Melanson, she died in 2007; and his son, James Melanson; and his granddaughter, Sarah Hartz; sisters, Rita Felenzak, Jeannette Melanson; and his brother, Ernest Melanson. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne and her husband, Steven Hartz; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Melanson; grandchildren, James Melanson (Stacy), Mariah McQueen (Shawn), Sean, Scott and Sam Hartz; seven great-grandchildren; and beloved by nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Tuesday morning, 8:30 a.m., from Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Monday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford.
