My heartfelt condolences for your loss. Although a contemporary of son David, I served with Jim on the TRC Camping committee for many years. His dedication to Scouting was passionate, and the pride he carried was genuine. As a scouter, he spoke proudly of being a leader, especially with his family behind him, and the natural progression of scouting to the younger generations. Grief of loss most certainly will follow with the realization that his memory lives on in fond memories as well as the result of his actions.

Organizing fun-filled sub-camp programs at a Jamboree, traveling “to the ends of the earth” to hike all those camp visitation trails, analyzing program improvements for local and area camps—Jim Burgess was the quintessential Scouter. Ever thoughtful and engaged, Jim had amazing insights into the heart of a Scout and how to strengthen the Scouting experience from the perspective of a boy. It was always a joy to work with Jim. Jim’s legacy lives in the Scouting values, skills, and memories of all those whose lives he touched. Thank you for sharing Jim with Scouts these many, many years.
