Obituary of Rae Kennedy

Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Rae F. Kennedy died at home on February 6, 2015 after a long full life. She was 96 years old.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F.; and her son, Bill Kennedy of Princeton, New Jersey.
She leaves her granddaughters, Kathy Kennedy and her husband, Jim Dykes of Williamsville, NY and Sheila Miles of Princeton, NJ; her great-grandchildren, Eddie Dykes, Vickie Dykes, Tim MIles, and James Miles; her daughter-in-law, Pat Kennedy; and nephew, Paul Sordoski.
Rae was born in Schenectady, New York and was the daughter of Francis Baker and Maude Gaige. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended Mildred Elley secretarial school.
She worked at General Electric in Schenectady, New York, as a tracer during WWII, and then as a secretary. She worked as legal secretary, 1956-1962, and for the New York State Department of Conservation's Boating section, 1965-1976.
She and Ed were married Christmas Day, December 1938. Together they bought a home, worked hard and raised Bill. In 1956 First Mate Rae and Captain Ed became active in boating and owned several yachts over the years. She was a member of the Schenectady Yacht Club from July 1956. She especially enjoyed dressing up for cocktail parties and dinner dances. She was a regular patron of The Imperial Dress Shop on State Street. She also enjoyed decorating their boats, giving each her own unique touches.
Retirement took Rae and Ed to Florida in 1978. Many Summer trips were made to New York State. During her life with Ed, she enjoyed traveling within the United States, including Las Vegas and Hawaii, and internationally, to Hong Kong, England and Switzerland, as well as several cruises.
An active bridge player, she had been a member of the Peninsula Women's Club and the Palmetto Club in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY, with burial following in the family plot at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.
