Schenectady - Mary (Longo) Pratico of Consaul Road in Schenectady, passed away peacefully up to Heaven at her home on Friday, April 17, while surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on April 11, 1926, in Sheppton, Pennsylvania to Mrs. Sarah and Dr. James Longo, Sr.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Paschal Pratico, in 2003, as well as her son, Philip Pratico, Sr., in 2006. She was also predeceased by her parents and three siblings, James Longo, Jr., John Longo, and Catherine Pezzano; as well as her brother-in-law, Thomas Pratico, Sr.; brother-in-law, Bruno Pezzano; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Longo.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Raymond) Peters of Scituate, Massachusetts, James (Leslie) Pratico of Troy, Joann (Bruce) Crounse of Clifton Park, Sara (Joseph) Compoli of Niskayuna, John Pratico of Schenectady, Paul (Elizabeth) Pratico of Niskayuna, and daughter-in-law, Theresa Pratico of Mechanicville; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister-in-law, Mary M. Pratico of Rexford; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elinore and Philip Pratico of Rotterdam; and sister-in-law, Mary Longo of Hazleton, Pennsylvania; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary attended schools in Pennsylvania and graduated in three years from Bloomsburg State Teachers' College in 1946 with a bachelor of science degree in business education. Mary was very active in college, being a member of the governing board, women's chorus, business education club, and Future Teachers of America organization. In addition, she was election chairman of the community government association, the treasurer of her junior class, chairman of her senior ball publicity committee, advertising chairman of the school newspaper, and even the student fire chief at college. It was at college where Mary met her future husband. Mary was a high school teacher in Pennsylvania prior to her marriage on June 14, 1947.
Mary and her husband lived in Schenectady during their marriage, raising their seven children. She also ran an accounting business with her husband for over 45 years. Mary's greatest joy in life was spending time with her adoring family. All who were blessed to have known Mary considered her the kindest, most patient, and loving person. Her children are all so grateful to God to have had Mary as their mother. Her faith was very important to Mary. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady for over 50 years. Funeral service, Tuesday morning, 9:45 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St.and 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Monday evening, 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mary will be buried alongside her husband at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Mary's family would like to thank Community Hospice of Schenectady for its compassionate care. Though we needed your services for just a brief time, they were greatly appreciated.
