Obituary of Peter Johnson

Niskayuna - Peter D. Johnson, 93, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at home. Peter was born in Norwich, CT, earned his B.S. in Chemistry at Harvard University and earned his Master's and PH. D at the University of North Carolina, in Physical Science. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran during World War II. He worked the General Electric Co. Research and Development Center. He did research related to light sources of all types, resulting in improvements in lamps used for lighting highways, factories, stadiums and other applications and had 50 publications and 40 patents. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Institute of Chemists. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society, Optical Society of America, New York Academy of Sciences, Sigma Xi and the Eastern New York Patent Law Association and a member and course instructor for the Lake George Power Squadron. Peter served the Town of Niskayuna for 10 years on the Planning Board and Zoning Commission and as member and chairman of the Board of Assessment Review for 6 years. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Grace Wood Johnson, she died in 1999. Peter is survived by three children; Peter D. Johnson,Jr., Carol (William) Haigh and Todd Johnson, five step-children; Andrew DeHont, Peggy Dameron, Deborah (Mark ) Connelly, John DeHont and Jean Daniel; one sister, Ann Stevens, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral, private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Daly Funeral Home, Inc 242 MClellan St. Schenectady.
