Schenectady - Joan I. Steggert, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 27, 2016, surrounded by loving family on her 68th wedding anniversary. Joan Ida Harrison was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Harold Harrison and Florine Scarborough Harrison. She was raised in Cleveland and Chicago. She attended Mundelein College, where she studied Art & Design. Joan moved to Schenectady in 2005 and was a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church. She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and artist. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Francis X. Steggert, in 1998. She is survived by her children, Johanna (Phillip) Hunsaker, Robert (Mary) Steggert, Janet (Tim) Shoemaker, Jocelyn (Glenn) Johnson Steggert, Jennifer (Michael) Willwerth, Peter Steggert, Judy Rosenthal and Jean (James) Zeldin; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated, Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church (formerly St. Helen's), Niskayuna. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305
