My thoughts and prayers go to Mr. Herderich's family. I was a regular customer at the shop for automobile glass repairs. He was always a great person to deal with and always was happy to help me out. He was a great business man who helped our community.

Thank you, Walter and Barbara, for giving me the opportunity to work many years at the FAA with your son, Bill Herderich. Although I have never met you Barbara or your husband, Walter, through your son, Bill, I have a sense of what Walter was like. Some of Walter's traits and behaviors will live on in your son, Bill. Jesus Christ is our Redeemer and Savior and makes all things new. Always trust in Jesus Christ in all things of this life.

I have fond memories of the whole family having lunch at my dad's store, Mohawk Paint & Glass, or "The Store" as we called it. We'd walk across Albany street to the Albany Pork Store, owned by my grandfather Emil and my mom's uncle Robert. We'd get a loaf of Mount Pleasant rye bread, barrel pickles, and slices of roast beef, turkey, ham, and liverwurst. We'd then cover one of the glass cutting tables with "table cloth", made from the same roll of paper we used for wrapping sheets of glass. We always had a jar of mustard and mayonnaise ready in the refrigerator. My mom usually stopped by Gershon's Deli on the way over and picked up potato salad, macaroni salad, and cole slaw. The only thing possibly better was when we'd get Michigan style hot dogs from the Newest Lunch Café. Those were (and still are) the best hot dogs ever made. -Bill

One of my favorite childhood memories was my dad lighting fires at our camp on Sacandaga Reservoir in the morning. We'd be up early in the morning and the camp was cold and dark. My dad would stack newspaper and wood in the fire and light it. We'd watch the flames grow while feeling the chill abate. We'd sit there in the warm glow and wait for Oma to make coffee and breakfast. I wish I could go back at least once. -Bill
