John Cook Obituary
On Saturday, September 5, 2009, John J. Cook passed away suddenly at Albany Medical Center. Born and educated in Brooklyn, John had 42 years of government service the last 25 as a letter carrier for the postal service. He was a Marine Corps veteran of WWII serving in Guam and Iwo Jima. John was the proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Electric City Marine Corps League and St. Paul the Apostle Church. He enjoyed bowling and gardening, but his true love was the ponies, affectionately known as "the handicapper". He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marianne Ferraro Cook; three sons, John P. Cook (Nancy) of Oneonta, Andrew B. Cook (Mary) of Burnt Hills and Mark J. Cook of Schenectady; a sister, Bernadette Fritz of Hauppage; eight grandchildren, Julie Ann, Peter T., John B., Andrew M., Timothy J., Sarah C., Caitlin M. and Jeffrey. Also survived by four great-grandchildren; a favorite sister-in-law, Grace Massaroni (Mid) and children, Linda, Steve, Bob and Mary; a nephew, Patrick; and a late nephew, Scott. Funeral services Wednesday morning at 8:30 from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and 9 o'clock at St. Paul the Apostle Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Tuesday evening 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment St. Josephs Cemetery, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
