Jenn, Ron and Mrs. Verra, I am so sad to hear about Jeffs' passing. I was unaware until I drove by Jenns' house the other day and my Dad said that Jeff died a few months back. My Dad is ill, so I didn't believe him until I looked it up. I was shocked.I always enjoyed having Jeff stop by the shop. He was always up beat even in poor health. We enjoyed conversations about our families and of course, the big guy himself, John. I miss so many of my customers since leaving the shop, but there are only a few I will call a friend. The Verra family has always had a special place with me and I miss all of you. It is never easy saying good bye, but I believe Jeff is in a happy place now, with no pain and cooking for his Dad. God bless all of you. Rick

May God comfort you during this time. Through his Word he assures us that he will replace death with life, sickness with perfect health and suffering with joy. He yearns to bring back many who have fallen asleep in death, to see them live again right here on earth under the best of conditions.

The last time Jeff and I were together, the whole Verra Family was on hand at the Notre-Dame - Bishop Gibbons High School Annual Sports Banquet to see legendary Head Coach Johnny Verra receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from ND-BG Booster Club. Please see the photo I posted which included Ronnie, myself, Jeffrey and Coach. We all played football together under Coach who was loved as a mentor, father-figure and of course a Great Head Football Coach. That night Jeffrey accepted the award with Coach as he was feeling under the weather. I can still recall how eloquent Jeff spoke that night and how proud he was to recognize his Dad's accomplishments as a Coach. But the emotion in Jeff's words were clearly evident when he thanked Coach for being there for his players throughout the years and what that meant to us, brought tears to many in the crowd, including me.
If I could recall one thing his teammates adored about Jeffrey was the way he would accept his Dad our Coach yelling at him in frustration. No matter where you were on the field after we broke into teams, drills or coffee breaks (which were nothing of the sort) you could count on hearing Coach's low, graveled voice yelling J-E-F-F-R-E-Y several times a practice because he made a mistake, ran a wrong route, forgot a play or the count. Jeff's reaction was always the same, "Yes Coach". He would look down at his cleats and sometimes smile to himself (not letting the coach see him). But you could tell Jeffrey loved his Dad dearly and Coach loved his son just as much. Thinking back it was a very affectionate relationship as much as it could be on a football field between a father, coach and son, player.
As far as friends go, if Jeff was your friend it was for life. He was a kind person who I will miss very much. He was taken to soon from his family, friends and teammates who truly loved this big compassionate soul. I know he is with Coach, his big brother Hank and all our teammates and coaches who left us too early as Jeffrey did. We'll all be together someday and Coach can lead his team with his sons he loved dearly along with all his players, the BG Golden Knights. Rest easy Jeffrey we're coming...

My deepest sympathies go out to Jennifer, Jacob and the Verra family. Jeffrey was a giant of a man with a giant heart. I have many fine memories of hanging with Jeff and all those memories have come back and brought a smile to my face. Rest in Peace Jeff. Keep the doors open and I'll see you again.

To my closest cousin and his family.
Your loss at such a young age is absolutely devastating and you are already missed by all who love you. I will always cherish my summer vacations with you and your family in Lake George and in Rotterdam. It is always my habit to stop in to see whoever I can when I am in the area and will miss our conversations and your big presence. You will always be more than a cousin to me, more like a brother and I will always be grateful to have been as close to you as I was. God bless you and your family.
Love you forever!
Sean
