Obituary of Vivienne D. Goorbarry

Vivienne D. Goorbarry Schenectady – Vivienne D. Goorbarry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in her home. Vivienne was born in Essequibo, Guyana on February 23, 1933, the first of nine children of her parents. She attended Kildonan Primary School of which her father, Walter Sydney Sabsook was the headmaster. Then she moved on to Modern Academy, Georgetown, and Corentyne High School (J.C. Chandisingh High School) at Rose Hall, Corentyne. Vivienne began teaching at Kildonan Primary School and left her profession to take care of her young family in the early 1960s. In 1976, when Guyana started its Nursery program, she was the first headmistress of Whim Nursery School on the Corentyne. She retired in the early 1990s and settled to raising her six young children. In the early 2000s, she immigrated to North America and obtained her citizen ship. Vivienne enjoyed reading and writing. Her favorite books were the Reader’s Digest, her Bible, and Word Search books. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Whenever she went to church, she would greet everyone and play with the little children. She loved flowers, especially roses and chocolate biscuits. Vivienne is predeceased by husband Bajrang Goorbarry, whom she married on April 10, 1955, at Saint Joseph’s Anglican Church in Port Mourant, Guyana. Additionally, Vivienne was predeceased by her parents Walter and Gemella Sabsook, her in laws David and Caroline Goorbarry, as well as her siblings and grandson, Bryan. She is survived by her children Lorrie (Roop), Adrian (Darshanee), Gillian (Nizam), Ann (Andrew), Sharon (Ralph), and Portia (GoPaul), her former daughter-in-law Shanti, and her many grandchildren. She is further survived by her great-grandchild Amara as well as by many nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Calling hours will be Monday evening, August 3, 2020 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Funeral services will begin Tuesday morning, August 4, 2020 from 9 AM from the funeral home. Interment to follow at Vale Cemetery, Schenectady.
