Scotia – Antonia M. Walsh, 89, passed away Friday December 31, 2021 at Ellis Hospital. Antonia (Toni) was born in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ellen (Crump) and John Mullen. She earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, Class of 1954, and always treasured her time spent there. She was an active member in the Cornell Club. She went on to earn two Master degrees from Yale University and SUNY Albany. Toni spent her professional career teaching remedial reading mostly with the Shenendehowa School District from where she retired. She was a member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women), the Empire State Volkssporter group, and a long time communicant and active member of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia. Toni was an avid reader and supporter of the Scotia Public Library as well she was an active member of the Scotia-Glenville Democrats. She supported the community arts scene as a volunteer at Proctors Theatre and Capitol Rep, and she never missed a ballet or orchestra season at SPAC. Toni is survived by her children: John (Ann) Walsh of Schenectady, NY, Hugh (Catherine) Walsh of Cincinnati, OH, Kate Walsh of Scotia, NY, and David (Crystal) Walsh of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren Lee, Benjamin, Dennis, Bridget, Christopher, Rachel, Peter, Lillian and Robert; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister Peggy Anderson of McFarland, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by her sister Judy Mullen Carey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, 231 2nd St., Scotia, NY 12302. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Oneonta, NY, in the Spring. There will be no calling hours. Toni's family is planning a celebration of her life this summer when Covid restrictions allow. Memorial contributions may be in Toni's name to the Scotia Public Library, 14 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY 12302
