Yesterday morning at 11 AM we had the service for our mother. Since Mom's service was a private event, I decided it would be nice to share one last photo of Mom and her family with all of you.
The service went really well. It was very quaint... just like Mom would want. It was an absolutely beautiful spring morning... bright blue skies, big white billowy clouds, singing birds and just warm enough. Earlier that morning and later in the afternoon it rained, so the service was timed perfectly. The Pastor who lead the service was super and gave a nice sermon for Mom... encouraging all of us to keep her alive by talking about her, sharing our stories of her.
We got a flower spray to lay on top of her casket and it was very nice. Full of very colorful flowers just like Mom's flower gardens have always been. We all went out for lunch afterward and spent the entire time talking about Mom, celebrating her life and keeping her alive in our hearts by talking about our memories of her.
Mom's battle with Alzheimer's lasted over 7 years. It was so very difficult to see her decline from the once vibrant, socially active person to a shell of the mother and person we all once knew. While we were able to provide her with the absolute best care possible, sadly we could do nothing to stop the progression of Alzheimer's. I will forever be a supporter of the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/) until a cure is found. Having gone thru this myself, I know this is one disease that needs to be cured.

Such fond memories of growing up in Niskayuna and spending happy days at your house with Patty..the dinners you cooked and served us, and when you moved to the farm, inviting my parents and i for supper and ice skating during the holidays...you were always so kind and loving to all.

TONI JUNG Posted Jul 3, 2022 at 2:05 AM
Dear family of Gladys, this is Toni Gentz Jung. Vernon and Reggie Gentz were my parents and neighbors to your
parents in New England. At church this evening I visited with Marge Koffler. I just found out today of the passing of Gladys. My mom adored your mom. I can see them sitting on the deck, with a cold drink, just thoroughly enjoying each others company. My mom was very knowledgeable about gardening, but she always learned something new from dear Gladys. They were forever friends. TONI
