Obituary of Gladys Multhaup

Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gladys Irene Multhaup, age 83, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 18, 2022 after a long fight with Alzheimer's. She was born October 21, 1938 in Dickinson, ND to Ernest and Marjorie Sparlund. She married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Multhaup, over 65 years ago. Gladys is survived by her husband Herbert Multhaup, three daughters (and their husbands), Patricia (John) Vieta, Sherry (Marty) McCredie and Cindy (Craig) Coutant, her sisters Fern Hewson, Lillian (Fid) Fitterer, and Margie Koffler and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Marjorie (Hawn) Sparlund and her brother Earl Sparlund. All of these people she loved and touched deeply. She will be truly missed. Gladys and Herb were born and raised in ND attending New England High School, "Home of the Tigers", where they met and fell in love. Gladys and Herb married in 1956. After Herb graduated from the University of ND in 1959 they began their life together outside of ND living in several different states (MI, AL, TX, OH, NY and VA) before returning to New England, ND after Herb retired where they lived for over 20 years. After Gladys was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2015 they moved back to NY to spend their remaining years with their daughters and sons-in-law. Gladys was not only a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished sister and daughter but also a fabulous cook, talented crafter (cross-stitch, embroidery, sewing, painter), collector of teddy bears, dedicated gardener and giving soul. She loved playing cards with her family and friends, traveling, shopping, going out for dinner, having her desserts (even if it was only a couple bites) and an occasional ice-cold beer. She and Herb were avid walkers, walking over 3 miles daily whenever they could. Gladys' family would like to express their gratitude to the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home C-Wing staff for the love, care and compassion they showed Gladys especially during the difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic and the end of her life. A private ceremony will be held at the Park View Cemetery in Schenectady, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
