Obituary of Robert Goodwin

Robert W. Goodwin, 80, of Country Club Dr., died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Bob was born in Springfield, MA, the son of Francis and Agnes Goodwin. He moved to Schenectady as a child and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and George Washington University on a basketball scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in education and later, earning a master's degree from The College of St. Rose. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was an elementary school teacher with the Draper Mohonasen School District, retiring a few years ago with 35 years of teaching. He was a coach of many sports throughout his teaching career. Bob enjoyed golf and developed his skills to be an award-winning golfer around the Capital region. He also loved to travel around the United States and especially Ireland and was an active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Madeline J. Pacelli Goodwin; five children, Patti Breau of Rexford, Timothy (Barbara) Goodwin of Rexford, Michael Goodwin of Boise, ID, Tom (Kim) Goodwin of Clifton Park and Billy (Siobhan) Goodwin of Monroe. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren, which he cherished and adored, Evan, Matthew, Meaghan, T.J., Liam, Gabrielle, Kiersten and Kayleigh. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Goodwin, and grandson, Danny Goodwin. Funeral service will be held on Thursday morning 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday at 3 in the afternoon to 8 in the evening at the funeral home. Interment, St., Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
