Obituary of Manning Balcom

Niskayuna - Manning L Balcom, 88 of Hickory Rd. passed away peacefully Sunday morning at St. Peter's Hospice. Born in Paradise, Nova Scotia, Manning grew up in Malden, Massachusetts, and moved to Niskayuna in 1972. Manning received a BS from Colorado State University and a Masters from Northeastern University. He was a Mechanical Engineer and Business Planner at General Electric for 35 years retiring in 1985. Manning was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre with Company A, 1269th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was a Master Mason for 48 years with Wyoming Lodge, and a member of Aleppo Shriner International, both in Mass. Locally he was a member of the Clifton Park Center Baptist Church and on the board of Living Resources. He served as a Lay Minister for over 30 years at various capital district area Baptist Churches. Manning is predeceased by his first wife Barbara (Auger) Balcom, brother Arnold Balcom and sister Muriel Kinsley. Survivors include his wife Lois (Ullrich); daughter Patricia Buttner; stepchildren George (Jenny) Barr, Darlene Barr, Sharon (Erik) Sinkora; 2 brothers Paul (Cathy) Balcom, and Ewart (Joanne) Balcom; 2 grandchildren Jacqueline and Sean Buttner; 5 step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Clifton Park Center Baptist Church. Calling Hours are Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment at Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie.
