Gene was my neighbor in Scotia for almost 11 years. In that time, I had the opportunity to get to know Gene. Yes, we were neighbors, but not the kind that would throw a fake wave and a smile, but true friend neighbors. Gene and I spent many days just talking and chatting. I would do many errands for him, he would make me his famous chicken ala king, we were friends and someone who I grew to love and respect. In those 11 years, Gene was the most constant thing in my life. He mended several broken hearts, watched me graduate, watched me fail and always was an ear to listen and give advice. I no longer have grandparents, but I viewed Gene as my grandfather. He cared about me and I cared about him. He was/is a great man, friend, father, grandfather and person !! I recently moved away, but stayed in contact with Gene on almost a weekly basis, sometimes to just to hear one of his stupid jokes, lol....
Gene, you are missed my friend, but never forgotten. Rest in peace and you are now finally home with your wife and we will all see you soon.
