Scotia - Harvey Francis Childers loyal and supportive husband, father, carpenter, and enthusiastic fisherman died peacefully at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Scotia. Harvey was born on August 21, 1944 to Helen Koehler and Russell Childers at Bellevue Maternity Hospital. A graduate of Linton High School, he pursued studies of architectural design at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. He married his high school sweetheart, Emily Costis, in 1965. Living in Scotia since 1974, the couple ran the remodeling business of Village Kitchens and Baths for more than a quarter of a century. Harvey was a talented designer and skilled craftsman who took pride in his work. Together they raised three children in Scotia, Jeff (Fay) Childers of Harvard, MA, Greg (Lori) Childers of Sarasota, FL and Elayne (Trevor) Murphy of Williamstown, MA. Harvey is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Emily; his three married children and their spouses; and seven grandchildren, Eva, Anita and Dwight Childers, Thomas and Michael Childers and Amelia and Teague Murphy. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Childers of Saugerties and Russell Childers of Winter Park, FL; as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Ellyn Congdon of Niskayuna. In addition Harvey is survived by several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home of 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harvey's memory to the Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or the Salvation Army, 222 Lafayette Street, PO Box 918, Schenectady, NY 12301 or WMHT 4 Global View, Troy, NY 12180.
